NO Desperate Housewives Update Tonight!

I know that everyone is going to be so upset that I am not writing about 'D.H.' tonight, but the episode was a repeat! Can you imagine, only one month into the new fall schedule and they are already re-running programs. We just finished watching 5 months of re-run programs and we get 4 weeks of new and then re-runs. I guess that they are holding back because November is 'sweeps' ratings month. Hopefully we will get some exciting programming in the next 4 weeks!

I finished re-working all my files from Works to Word this weekend. They really look a lot better now. I'm glad to have that all done for the time being. Now I will get back to my other 'secret' project. I've kind of put it on the back burner for the past 3 weeks while I worked on the Youth Scholarship Tournament.

I doesn't appear that we will have snow for Halloween this year! Surprisingly enough we haven't been blessed with the white stuff yet. It has been rather nice this past week, hitting as high as 16 degrees on Wednesday!

No costumes for us this year! Do you girls remember the year we all dressed as 'cats' for Saturday morning bowling? Not too much work was involved in those costumes. Just a little black felt for ears and tails, some elastic and pins and or course black clothing. That was fun!

Hectic Week For Moi!!!

I have been neglectful of posting this week. I've been very busy with the Edmonton Youth Scholarship Tournament stuff. There are lots of things for me to do so that I become acquainted with the event. I've been re-doing all the entry forms and letters. Plus I have written a short article for the CTF Connection newsletter about the event. I've been sending dozens of e-mails out to gather information and all this takes hours and hours. I's all fun though. I am learning the computer more and more with each day. I was so proud of myself the other day. I received an xls file and went to open it and of course I couldn't. I played around with it for a while and finally decided to make an action to open xls files on a works spreadsheet. Voila!!!!!! it opened. I was really happy that I figured it out all by myself.

Today I installed 'Works Suite 2005' on my computer. I now have Word on this new computer of mine. Of course, most of the work I did this week has to be re-worked onto Word, but once again it's a challenge for me.

Other than that not too much has gone on. Same Sh*t, different day so the saying goes!
Next week is my 4 nights at the bowling centre week as I have an Edmonton Tenpin meeting on Wednesday. The 'Critters' don't like that too much though.

More of Desperate Housewives

So, what did everyone think of tonight's episode of D.H.? Who do you think Betty has locked in her basement? Is it another son? Her husband? I guess we can figure out that whoever he is he is a murderer though. What about Susan? I guess there were parts of season one that I didn't catch, because I didn't realize she was a children's book writer. I wondered where she got her money and when she told Betty that she worked at home, I wasn't sure what she did. The "You're my Lonnie" and "You're my Suzie" was priceless, wasn't it? When that funny little man leaned over to kiss Susan (Terri Hatcher), I just about fell off the couch!!!

Now the police are convinced that Bree poisoned Rex. It will be interesting to see how long it takes for that plot to resolve itself. And Paul is back. He is probably wondering where Zach disappeared to. How long will it be before Mike figures it out that he is back? Maybe it will be Susan that sees him first.

Oh, Lynette. I really think that she is my favourite. For someone who was a stay-at-home mom for the last 8 or 9 years, she's pretty cagey. Although, her plan sort of backfired on her when Nina wanted her to go out and pick-up the men for her every night. It didn't take her long to figure out how to get Nina to not want her there!!!

I think I may have to go and purchase season 1 though. At least to refresh my memory on some of the happenings. Also to see what actually went on before I began watching.

That is my take on this week's episode.

A Case of Sibling Rivalry?????

I thought that I would share with you a little story about two little kittens who have a severe case of sibling rivalry lately. They are Oscar and Soonie. Now, I realize that technically they are not siblings. But since I adopted Soonie and I guess you could call me Oscie's foster mommy, then that would kinda make them sister and brother (in a round about way). Have I totally gotten you confused???? NO???? Then on with my story......

On Thanksgiving weekend I took off the sheet that was covering my black Ikea chair to wash it and get rid of the mountain of orange cat hair. Ever since then, both Bassoon and Oscar have been fighting over which one was going to sleep in it. It's quite hilarious sometimes, especially when I'm sitting on the couch watching T.V. and Soonie is sitting on the chair. She gets this look on her face as if maybe she should come and cuddle with me. Then she seems to realize that if she gets off the chair, she will lose it to Oscar!!!! I sometimes think that Oscar just sleeps there to torment Bassoon. Then when he wants the chair and Soonie is sleeping there he either goes and bugs her or he climbs up on the arm of the sofa and sleeps there or he climbs into his little bed.

Well, last night I was on the computer and went to the living room to get my glass of water and there was the cutest thing you have ever seen in your life....................




I just had to run and get my camera to get a shot of the two of them. Much to my surprise they didn't move an inch, even when I took the first photo. I thought for sure that Soonie would move her chin off of the chair.





Even when I took the second picture Oscie just kind of opened his eyes of a couple of seconds. It was soooooooooo cute and I am glad that the pictures turned out pretty good, since it was rather dark in the living room and I just turned on the one light in the kitchen.






Anyway, I guess you can see why I had a sheet on the chair before. I certainly have my work cut out for me now, to try and get all that kitten hair off it. And now we can't just blame Soonie for it!!!

I'm No Accountant!!!

The past two days have been relatively busy for me. I have been trying to get the laundry done and get some of my books organized for the upcoming 6 months of work that I have taken on.

I have spent the past couple of weeks writing a bowling league constitution for our Thursday night league. I think that I have finally got it ready and presented it to the league tonight. We will vote on it in a couple of weeks along with (hopefully) a new playoff format. Last year there were 8 weeks of playoffs. I have never heard of anything so ridiculous as that in a regular mixed league. Plus I have been trying to balance the financials for the league. I have finally got it figured out to within $28. I could never accounting for a living. Looking at numbers day in and day out!!! YUCK!!!!

I spent some time with my friend Shirley before the league going over some things for the Edmonton Youth Scholarship Tournament. There is a lot to do, but I am ready to get started. I have to sit down and get a real grip on what needs to be done soon. We are going to meet again on Sunday to help me really get started.

Other than that nothing else has been happening. The weather has been relatively good the past few days. A little bit chilly, but the sun shines most of the day so that is nice. I guess I will run now. Until next time............................

My Life and its Ramblings!

Today I thought I would write a bit about what's going on in my life. I have gotten a certain excitement going on right now. I was asked to attend the Edmonton Youth Tenpin meeting on Saturday and I have joined their Board of Directors. Each year the Edmonton Youth Bowling Association hosts a Scholarship tournament that is open to any or all youth bowlers who are members of YBC or CTF. This has been going on for many years, started by the Lynnwood Youth Association (my old bowling centre). I have taken on the position of Tournament Director! This is quite exciting for me as it is something I am capable of doing and also new to me. We have bowlers from all over Alberta, some from Saskatchewan and British Columbia and this year we are expecting bowlers from Quebec. How exciting!! It is also a different sort of tournament because it is open to anyone wishing to participate. There is no qualifying and it has both scratch and handicap divisions. This will keep me quite busy for the next 6 months or so.

Along with this new job of mine, I am also the league secretary for the Thursday league, doing the "Grey Cup Raffle" with the Edmonton Tenpin Association and run pot games on Bruce's Tuesday night league. I am still a bit disorganized with all the papers that I have all over the place, but it is coming along and everything is almost put in binders and sorted out. I am meeting with the previous tournament chair on Wednesday evening to go through what needs to be done etc. and pick up all the paperwork from previous events. The next week or so I'll be busy going through that and getting myself orientated with stuff.

The "critters" are all doing relatively well. Oscar has been particularly affectionate lately. Right now he is sitting on the chair next to mine while I'm on the computer. He did the same thing last night!! He has also been coming to me for "pats". He loves to have his back scratched and he does this funny little "lip licking" thing when I scratch his backbone. He is also very purry!!!! Clara is still enjoying the outdoors as the weather is not too cold. She does come in at night though. Soonie has taken a liking to Bruce as of late. She likes to go sit with him when he's watching tv. I call him her new "boyfriend". Radar is doing pretty good, though he is still losing his hair. He is getting slower too. But he seems relatively free of any pain and is quite happy. It's hard trying not to scare him when we come home or if he's sleeping and you happen to touch him, he really jumps. I worry that we may give him a heart attack!!! Puppy has also taken a shine to Bruce and Bruce to puppy. Everyone used to think that I spoiled Puppy, but you ain't seen nothing until you see Bruce. He is far worse than me. He feels guilty when we aren't home for supper and has to find something to "share" with Puppy when he comes home!!!!!

That's about it for now.

Trouble on Whisteria Lane or Desperate Housewives 3

I think that I will stay away from politically charged comments for a while. So back to my favourite television show "Desperate housewives".

Lynette is finding out that it's not easy to be a "working Mom" after being a "stay-at-home mom" for so long. Her children are not adapting to the change as she and Tom had hoped. Poor Parker, he wanted his mommy to take him to his first day of kindergarten and Lynette found a way to be there, sort of, with a web cam. That was last weeks episode. This week little Parker has a new imaginary friend, a "Mary Poppins" figure complete with umbrella. In the end when she was run over by the garbage truck was priceless!

It looked like Susan and Mike were heading toward a reconciliation, until Susan found Zach. What do you think Mike will do when he finds out that Susan sent Zach to Utah in search of his father? Will it turn out that Mike is Zach's biological father?

When will Bree see through George? That is some evil pharmacist!! How could she take his word over her own son's feelings? When will she figure out that he was the one behind Rex's death? When will George do something that will get someone there on the road to discovering his evil doings?

Then there is Gabrielle and Carlos. They have the strangest sort of marriage, don't they? She certainly knows how to get what she wants from the male population!!!!

Can't wait to see what transpires next week!

Momma's Little Helpers!!!!

Last night I was working on the computer and suddenly I felt another presence in the room. I looked to my left and there on the chair next to me was.....

To my great surprise it was Clara! She never comes to see me in the computer room. You can usually find any or all of the other critters, Radar Puppy, Oscar or Soonie, in the room with me, but never Clara!!!

A little while later I was doing some photocopies and I turned around and saw this..........

Doesn't it look like he is trying to figure out what to do to write a letter or play a game? Actually Oscar sat there for about 10 minutes watching the screen saver. I found this neat screen saver on my computer that shows a slide show of all the photos on the computer. I love it and apparently, so does Oscie!!!!!!!!!!!!!! After about 10 minutes Oscar left my chair and guess where he headed?????

Isn't this just the cutest picture? it looks like Oscar is giving Clara a kiss!!! They actually stayed there on the same chair for a couple of minutes before Clara said "enough of this s**t, I'm leaving!!" and she headed to her favourite sleeping spot on the bed.

Anyway, I thought it was rather nice of Clara and Oscar to come and help me with some of my bowling bookwork. Don't you??????

Remember When....

Today was Thanksgiving. We had our dinner yesterday because we had to go bowling tonight. There was a time when we didn't bowl on the holiday Mondays, but that time has gone by the wayside. It's funny how things change. It seems that the only time bowling is cancelled is when Christmas or Boxing Day falls on a bowling night. This got me to thinking about how times have changed in my lifetime........

Who Remembers..............................

When everything was closed on a holiday?

When late night shopping was only on Thursday nights?

When the stores were closed on Wednesday afternoons?

When the grocery stores closed at 6 pm Saturday and re-opened Monday morning?

When milk was delivered to your door by the milkman?

Bread was delivered by the breadman?

There was no Sunday shopping?

When 7-11's started up and you actually could by bread or milk somewhere until 11 pm?

When there were NO self-serve gas stations?

When the only fast food was Kentucky Fried Chicken or A & W?

When Dairy Queen served only ice cream?

Then there are the changes in our lifestyles that have occurred..........

When it was the norm to get married before living together?

When the majority of moms stayed home to raise their children?

When there were NO daycares, just moms or grandmothers who babysat for a few extra dollars?

When teachers wore suits and ties or dresses to work?

When jeans were not allowed to be worn in schools?

When girls had to wear dresses or pantsuits to school?

When only a handful of people that you knew owned a computer?

When a VCR was a luxury item?

These are just a few of the things that I can remember off the top of my head. Funny that so much has changed in such a short amount of time. Just imagine how much things have changed in the past 100 years.

Today's Ramblings, I Suppose

I was reading on my homepage tonight that CTV is re-broadcasting last Sunday's episode of "Desperate Housewives" on Saturday night @10 pm, because of a technical problem with Sunday's broadcast. Apparently, a whole scene was not played. After Susan backed into Edie and then to commercial. There was supposed to be more explanation on that that we in Canada did not see. Interesting!!!! I wonder how many CTV employees lost their jobs over that one?????????

I always say....."Someone has just lost their job" when there is a BLACK screen on the television for more than a couple of seconds!! Air time is valuable to the networks.

I got into trouble with Jill. She said to me "Thanks for putting nude pictures of me all over internet!!!" It wasn't really a nude picture though, just of her top half in the bathtub. And she was only 6 years old!!!!!!!!!!!! Besides, who reads my blog anyway??? It is a rather cute photo, if you ask me.

Not too much else going on. I spent the better part of this week working on my bowling books. Getting everything organized for the year. I am secretary of the Thursday league and I am busy trying to get all the memberships done. I think I just have 9 left to get. I also re-organized my binder for the ETBA. I may have to take last years minutes out as the binder is rather full right now. My briefcase weighs a ton with all that stuff in it. Next weekend is the Edmonton Youth meeting and I have already been asked to sit on that board. It's nice that they want me to do it and it will be fun also.

Time for some sleep now. I'm tired. I did all the laundry today, made spaghetti sauce and spaghetti for supper, and started a stew, in the slow cooker, for tomorrow. Sunday I'm going to cook a small turkey for Thanksgiving!!! I love turkey!!!!!!!!

"Innocent Until PROVEN Guilty"...................

I'm not too sure if we should be waiting for an outcome to trials for crimes against children. There seems to be an ever increasing number of crimes against our children ranging from abduction to sexual abuse to pedophilia to murder. It is scary out there. Since when do parents have to walk their children to and from school day in and day out? When did it become unsafe for our kids to walk to school on their own or go to the park or playground without an adult? When did the time come that "Lock-Down" procedures had to be instilled in our schools?

I would like to know why pedophiles (both accused and already or previously convicted) are being let out on bail to await their trials. That is the most ludicrous thing I have ever heard of. These people are a danger to our children and they won't stop just because they are out on bail. They continue to offend and often disappear from the authorities. Then they can continue to molest children until they get caught, if they get caught, again and again. We all have either read or heard the statistics on child molesters. They are never rehabilitated! When they are released on parole or from a psychiatric hospital they re-offend, maybe not immediately, but at some point in time they do.

This was brought to my attention today, because of an "Oprah" show. She is going to publish on her website photos of offenders and if you provide a clue to the whereabouts of said sex offender, she is personally offering a $100,000.00 reward. Bravo!! Oprah. It's time we all made it known that the laws MUST be changed in order to protect the children. They are the future and we must make sure that they are kept safe.

Let's take the time to write a letter to our lawmakers DEMANDING the laws be changed. If someone is arrested for a crime against a child DON'T let them out on bail!!!!!!! When these sicko's are convicted lock them up and throw away the key!!!!!!

What's Happening To Our World????

I admit that I watch way too much television. Usually it is on 24/7 in the house, if we are at home. I don't watch constantly, but it is on for the noise and for company. The "critters" aren't the greatest conversationalist! This morning (confession time) I was watching "Martha's" new show and she was talking about the "great american pastime" of playing cards. The whole program was on card groups, the new craze of celebrity poker, Texas Hold-em tournaments, on-line and television gambling. This got me to thinking............................

Don't get me wrong, I am not against playing cards, but I am getting a little scared as to what this new fad of playing poker is doing to our society. When did it become socially acceptable for our teens to gamble away their lunch hour at school or have a poker game at home with their friends in the evening? Do parents really allow their children to play on-line poker? Do they know what their children are doing on the computer? Do they know that their children are gambling? Do they even care? It's a scary thought to me!

When did gambling become so acceptable? Remember all the old gangster movies, where the bookies and runners and the backroom gambling dens were run by the mob? Now the government controls gaming!!!! Another scary thought! What does it make them? I realize that the profits from gaming, at least in this country, does some good. It helps support our education system, sports facilities and a host of other things. But at what cost?????????? How many crimes are caused by a gambling problem? It's everywhere you turn. Every store has lottery machines. Almost all bars have VLT's. There are Bingo Halls and Casinos everywhere you go. It's crazy!!!!!!!!!!

Now onto the next issue..........

What is happening to our children? Bruce had a call from one of the young guys that works for him on Saturday night, saying he couldn't come to work the next day because his brother was SHOT. Apparently he had asked a girl, that he had just met, to go for a drink with him and was followed by a car that rammed into his car. When he got out, he was shot by a guy, who happened to be the girls boyfriend, with a sawed off shotgun. This is NUTS!!!! Luckily, it appears that he will be okay.

Why is it that everytime we turn on the news or open a newspaper there is some story about young people being the victims or perpetrators of some horrendous crimes? Could it possibly have anything to do with the total lack of discipline that the youth of today receive? Since when is it acceptable to tell your parents or teachers to "F" OFF and there are no consequences for doing so? Why must the bullies and troublemakers be allowed to continue doing there thing with no negative consequence? Then when these youngsters become old enough to be tried as adults, we ask ourselves, what happened to make him/her turn out this way? He/she came from such a good home!

I think that we have got to start asking ourselves if this lack of discipline in the home and at school is really for the good to our society. It's time to make everyone accountable for their actions.

Desperate Housewives 2

So the plot thickens on "Desperate Housewives". I suppose there is going to be a long murder investigation into Rex's death, with Bree being the main suspect. Her mother-in-law, Phyllis, is going to be the cause of a lot of troubles there. How long is it going to be before anyone begins to suspect that George, the pharmacist, was tampering with Rex's meds?

Then there is the new neighbour, Betty. What's your guess on who is locked in her basement and why? How long before someone really gets suspicious? I'm sure Susan will be first to start snooping around as she has already heard noises from Betty's house. For a couple of minutes there tonight I thought she was telling the psychiatrist the truth about her husband. Until she said that she wasn't sleeping, then I caught on that she was looking for pills to keep the mysterious person sedated in the basement.

I thought that the part about Lynette and the "Rat" was quite amusing. Her hubby's plan to tidy up every second day was pretty funny, with 4 small children running around the house. And then him saying he found the rat eating part of a grilled cheese sandwich on the counter and killing it with a shovel was hilarious! It turned him into a "cleanfreak"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All in all, it is fun to watch and try and figure out what will happen next.
