Love Is Like A Deck of Cards!!!

Today I received the funniest e-mail, so I decided to share it with you. I certainly hope that you will all see the humour in it.......

It has been said by a woman that Love is Like a Deck of Card.........

You need a Heart to LOVE HIM........

We all know what it's like to give our heart to someone!!!

A Diamond to MARRY HIM........

And the bigger the better, right???

A Club to SMASH his F***ing head in..............

Especially when he sits for hours and hours in front of the tv hogging the remote control.

And a Spade to BURY the BA$TARD...............

We certainly wouldn't want anyone to find him would we??????

The grey writings are just my little comments to this little joke!! I hope you see the humour in it, as I did. It was good for a laugh today.

We had bowling tonight. Bruce spared for our team because Jim was away. We did alright. My first game was not good, but the other 2 were pretty good so I had a good night. Better than last week!!

LOST????????

Last week I discovered the show LOST. I didn't watch it last year (I thought it was one of those Reality Shows) so now I'm trying to figure out what is going on. I did manage to catch most of the last season re-cap that was on before the premiere last week, but it is still a little hard to figure out who everyone is and what is going on. I was surprised that I even remembered that it was on tonight!!! I am just hoping that it doesn't turn out to be something really weird with aliens or monsters etc. I am hoping that it will be a bit more realistic than some of the other new shows that are coming out this season.

Bruce was home sick today. He is fighting a cold and is probably just run down after working all weekend. Though some of his tiredness is his own fault. Not coming home until late after bowling or staying and drinking with the fellow that came to fix the lanes last weekend. But I dare not say anything about that!!!! He never seems to remember about the more fun things, only the work part. Funny thing though, he was home all day sick, and he had 5 phone calls from work. Can't even have a sick day!!!!!!!!! Hopefully he is feeling okay tomorrow because he may have to spare for our team. Our 4th player, Jim, had to go out of town and wasn't sure if would have the time to pre-bowl.
I was nice and made him chicken soup for supper. Joanne will be jealous cuz I also made wholewheat cheese biscuits (one of her favourites).

I think tomorrow I will try to get my hair cut. I want to keep it rather short so it won't be too much of a problem to go to the pool. I think that I will also stop by there and get some info on the aquasize program and the other program for arthritis sufferers. I think that next week I will try to go to the pool at least 2 and possibly 3 days. It's funny, I enjoy the pool but sure have trouble motivating myself to go!!!

My Life....Ho Hum

So I thought I would sit down tonight and write a posting on this blog. So far I haven't come up with anything worthwhile to write about. My life is not too exciting. I am hoping to get a bit busier in the next while with various bowling things. We had our General Meeting on Sunday at Red's for the Edmonton Tenpin Association along with a small tournament. I took some photos at the event and did a couple of scrapbook pages of them from my scrapbook program on the computer. They turned out not too bad and everyone was impressed. I think that they want me to go on the Board of the Edmonton Youth Association this year. It's nice to be wanted to do those sort of things again. They also want me to learn the tournament program on the computer, so I can do stats. That should be fun. My typing is getting faster since I have been writing here too.

The "Critters" are doing pretty good. Puppy has his troubles, but for the most part is good. We had a bit of a lake last night in the back porch when I came home. That's the first time in a couple of months that he has peed anywhere on the main floor. Usually he manages to go to the basement. Clara still spends most of the time outdoors, although she sometimes comes in for the night as the nights are getting quite chilly. Soonie, I think, is losing some weight as she seems to be much more capable of grooming herself. She is still quite the "chunker" though. Then there is Oscar. He has been almost affectionate lately. There have been times that you could just see that he was thinking of coming to see me and then realized that he had better continue his stand-offishness. He has come and sat on the arm of the couch while I was sitting there though.

Bruce has been busy at work all week. He worked all last weekend. They spent $30,000 dollars resurfacing the lanes in June and so far the idiots from Club Fit upstairs have caused about $7,000-$8,000 damage. First their janitors left a hose running all night that caused $4500 damage to the approaches on 3 lanes and then their hot water tank leaked and caused another $4000 or so damage to lane 13. You could see where the water damage had lifted some of the boards on the lane. That got repaired on the weekend.

I am hoping to start going to the pool in the nest few days. I want to start aquasizing again. I just have to get myself better organized to go. I guess I don't really have anthing more exciting to write about tonight. Maybe by tomorrow I will have some sort of brainstorm idea on a topic of conversation.

Desperate Housewives???????

During the summer, full of re-run television, Bruce and I discovered the often talked about, "Desperate Housewives". After catching up on all the storylines this summer we eagerly anticipated the "season premiere". If you know anything about Bruce and the t.v., you know that he HOGS the remote and was checking when his favourite program "Family Guy" was on. AGGGGGGH, same time as "Desperate Housewives"!!!!!! Chris to the rescue...........thank god for digital cable....... he could watch "Family Guy" 3 hours earlier on a Detroit station.

Does anyone else watch this silly program??? Can you imagine anyone taking one of the guests ties at their husbands funeral and changing the tie on the body?? Bree is a piece of work. And who has the new character "Betty" have locked up in her basement? Will Susan find happiness with Mike???? Will Tom and Lynette's marriage survive the role changes in their marriage? What do you think????????????

Anyway, it's sort of fun to watch something so utterly off-the-wall as "Desperate Housewives" for a change. It's so completely different than our usual "Law and Orders" or "CSI's" that we faithfully watch.

Something to Ponder.......

Okay, here I go with a little controversial topic. After reading a sports article on my homepage about a 35 year old lightweight boxer dying 5 days after a fight, from a brain hemorrhage, I was compelled to write this post.

Every day in the news there are stories about bigger and better sports equipment, rule changes and criminal charges for assault being brought against sports figures, all in an effort to protect athletes . These things are brought to the publics eye to try and bring a level of safety to the sports world and to the athletes. Yet, we still tolerate the "sport" of boxing. How hypocritical. There are fans of this sport that pay hundreds of dollars to watch these matches. Many, many more people pay big bucks to catch the latest fight card on pay-per-view television. These, so called athletes, are paid millions of dollars to get into the ring and knock each other senseless with hardly any protection against the blows.

When these boxers are left with severe health problems from the years spent in the ring having their brains rattled, who pays the costs of their long term care? Is it right to allow this to continue? I think that the next time they advertise a fight on pay-per-view we should all call or write our cable companies and demand that it be cancelled. If the promoters can't sell their product, maybe this barbaric sport will stop.

How many boxers, in the name of the almighty dollar, have to die or suffer severe brain injuries before this is stopped?

Think about it!

Always a Party Girl

For everyone out there that knows Joanne doesn't drink beer, here is proof that it hasn't always been the case. Here she's enjoying one of her daddy's Buds!!!!

Every once in a while she does manage to let her hair down and go a bit crazy. Looks like a cute little gift. Photo taken at her bridal shower in May 2004.

Happy Birthday Joanne

(: (: (: Happy Birthday Joanne :) :) :)
In honour of Joanne's 24th Birthday, I dedicate this posting especially to her!!

Look at her with the beaters from her first birthday cake's batter. Looks like she's enjoying it!!

I think that the cake turned out well. Joanne seems to be very pleased with Mommy's work!!!!

Joanne's ready to DIG in!!!! Notice who's on her Bib????? I guess that her love for Tigger began at an early age!!!! :) :) :)

Here she is at 2, blowing out the candles on the cake. Even then she thought chocolate cake and white icing was very, very yummy!!

Just so that Johnny doesn't feel left out....... Do you remember this one???????

Finally, here is a picture of Joanne with Mom on her 17th B-Day!! Can you believe that that was seven years ago?????

Love you Joanne, and we all miss you bunches. Wishing you a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY from all your family here in Edmonton!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Happy Birthday to Mommy!!!

Happy Birthday Mommy
Love from your Little Oscie Boscie
Today is my Mommy's birthday.
I hope that she hasn't forgotten me!!
Do you remember when??

I hope that you have a great day Mommy!!!!

Lots of love and purrs from Oscar meow meow meow!!!

p.s. I had to get "Favourite Mommy" to help me with this.

Our Little Angels?!?!?!?!????

It's the funniest thing with these critters of ours, nothing stays the same for very long. Except for possibly Puppy's begging at the table.... Lately I have noticed that Bassoon (Tootle Bug to me) has been looking out the doors like Oscar does. She hadn't been doing it all summer until the other day. These poor cats are going to be traumatized when the really cold weather comes and the doors can't be left open. So today this is what I saw.............

Aren't these the funniest little cats. Oscar is looking at me with his "Are you taking more pictures of me again?" look.

I think that they are watching the leaves blow off of the trees and fall to the ground, unless Clara happens to be out there taunting them with her "Na na na poopoo, I get to play outside and you guys don't!" look.

After quite a long time of being a good boy, here is where I caught Oscar tonight.

Maybe he's going to start smoking??????? I don't know what gets into him. Pretty funny though!!! And so innocent..................

Peanut Butter and Banana Eh!!!

As everyone knows I am working on a "Secret Project" that involves photos and this morning after reading Joanne's blog posting I was once again going through photos and I came across this most appropriate pic of my baby girl....................

See, even as a baby she loved a peanut butter and banana sanwich. You know they are very good for you. With a glass of milk or a bowl of yogurt they cover all the food groups. We all know the importance of whole grains, so I am sure that Joanne now makes her PB & B sandwiches on whole grain bread!!!

The Truth About Cats and Dogs.....

At least my version of the truth!!!

Last night when Jill and Ryan were over, Jill made the observation as to how long Puppy's hair is (at least what is left of it). Puppy always had these skinny little legs that had hardly any hair on them. This got me to thinking......scary thought! When humans get older they start growing hair in different places, like in the nose, ears, women's chins etc. So is it really going to be that different with our little critters?????

Now I have noticed in the past that some dark pets go grey as they get old. Even with Clara, who is 12 now, the hair around her nose has changed somewhat. Gotten coarser and greyer. But Puppy is white and you could never see a change in his fur colour. He has gone bald on his belly though, lost his hearing and his boing. The hair he does have is really long. It's kinda sad. Today I was sitting on the couch watching T.V. and he came over to me and got this really sad look on his face. It said "I want to jump up on the couch with you". Puppy knows that he just can't make that jump anymore. It was so sad that it made me cry. I finally coaxed him to come and see me and I gave him a nice soft brushing and a bit of a haircut so he could see. He was happy again.

The cats seem to be okay. Even Clara is the same as always, although I've noticed that now that the nights have gotten quite chilly, she comes inside. Soonie is 10 years old and I think she has become more affectionate with age. She always liked Joanne best and now that she has moved away, either Bruce or I are good enough to come and sit on. Oscar is still a baby, so he is just the same. He likes to play and be chased around the house. When I chase him he just runs into the bedroom and under the bed. Then I can't get him.

I think it would be a funny sight to see Puppy and me race up the stairs. Your guess is as good as mine as to who would win. I don't think we would break any time records either. Even our little chunker, Bassoon, could beat us up the stairs. I'm not anywhere near as aged as Radar, but I sure have a problem with the stairs these days. Then tonight I twisted my bad knee when I was bowling. I've been trying to do some leg strengthening exercises and they have helped somewhat, but when you turn the wrong way on the approach while bowling, it doesn't help at all.

So the truth about cats and dogs, as I see it, is that just like humans we all grow OLD!!! There's nothing we can do to prevent it.

25 years After The Fact

Joanne made mention the other day in one of her postings about some people in her family having trouble with turning 25 years old. Meaning, ME, her mommy. I thought I should explain. Most women have trouble turning 30 then 40 and my god can you believe even 50, well my most troublesome age was 25. I had been married for almost 8 years, had 2 beautiful little girls (6 years old and a 3 year old) and had lost a baby the August before my 25th B-Day. I was at a crossroads. I didn't know if we should try for another baby, if I should go back to school, get a job or just go along with being a stay-at-home mom.

I did eventually decide to go back to school and went back and got my English 30 in the fall of 1980. I started taking an accounting course in January and after a few weeks was rather sick.....you guessed it, the morning kind!!!! Surprise!!! I was pregnant. On September 23,1981 I gave birth to my last baby, a girl, named Joanne Amy. By the time my 26th birthday came along I knew what I would be doing for the next few years. I did eventually go to work, working at Lynnwood Bowl for quite a few years. Mostly part-time so I could still be home with my girls and working it out so that their dad was there when I wasn't.

Now it's 25 and a half years later and I could care less about how old I am. I'm just glad to be here. I don't think I would change a thing about how that time of my life turned out. All three girls are grown up now, have university educations,(Jen's a nurse, Jill's a teacher and Joanne will be a teacher when she can work in the U.S.) are married to great guys and are all on their own. My baby is much further away than I would like though. And that is why I am EmptyNestMomma!!!!

A Day In The Life Of Oscie

"Favourite Mommy" and I thought it would be nice to send out a nice little picture story of what a day in the life of ME, Oscar Carson Goluszka, is like. So here we go.......

When we get up in the morning, "Favourite Mommy" usually opens the kitchen window so that I can look out at the world. You know, even though she is "Favourite Mommy", she is mean and won't let me play outside!!

I like to rub up against "Favourite Mommy's" legs. She had a hard time taking this picture of me. All you can see is my paw and "F.M.'s" shirt and necklace.

One of my most fun things to do is watch the toilet flush. "F.M." lets me in the bathroom with her when there is no one else at home.

Watching the water in the toilet bowl is pretty exciting, don't you agree?????

Sometimes I try to pretend I'm just one of the ornaments and sit nicely on the end table. Look how cute I am sitting here so innocently.

Time for a little nap in the afternoon. Today I thought I would sleep alongside the Puppy!

Play time again. I found a little bug to play with in the front entrance. Lucky me!!!!

Now I think it's time to sharpen the old claws. I might even bat the ball around this thing a few times too.

It's fun having the front door open so I can watch the world or perhaps falling leaves go by.

I really wish I could go out and help Bruce cut the lawn this afternoon. Can you see Bruce out there?????

It's HUGS time with "Favourite Mommy". Don't I look absolutely thrilled!!! NOT!!!!!!!!!

Look at me, I'm so CUTE in my new hiding place that "Favourite Mommy" just found out about. Guess where it is??????

It's under my Mommy and Daddy's bed. Don't tell "F.M." but when she doesn't know where I am, I'm asleep under the bed.

It's CHOW TIME, my favourite time of the day!!!!! I love my supper time. It's pretty funny the way "F.M." has to block off my eating area so Radar can't get my food.

Now that I've finished my supper, I need to wash up!

Let's get these paws really clean tonight!

Time to relax a bit in the hallway. Maybe I can get "F.M." to chase me down the hall. She can never catch me cuz I run and hide under the bed. Pretty smart huh?

And now it is time for me to go to sleep for the night. Goodnight and sleep tight.

The End.

A Change

After fighting with the Blogger-Ghost earlier tonight, I decided to try and change the template on my blog. I hope that you all like it now and it will be much friendlier to me and my readers. It took me several tries to get one that I liked the layout of. Hopefully my little exorcism worked!!!

Right now I have Puppy and Clara in the computer room with me driving me squirrely. Radar walks under the desk and over my feet and then Clara rubs up against my legs and yells at me. Well I think that it is time to try to sleep. Gotta go and throw that ball again tonight. I hope that I do as well as I did on Monday.

Crazy Ghost

I swear that there is some sort of crazy ghost that haunts some of my postings. After finishing my earlier post this evening, I went to check it out and it was invisible AGAIN!!! Then it was halfway down the page. So I decided to write this quick one in hopes that it will clear up earlier troubles.

Maybe I should get a Blog exorcism???????????????????????

AAAAGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

So today I decided to be a good S.O. (significant other) and make Bruce one of his favourites for supper (dinner) tonight, spaghetti and meatballs. I remembered that I used the last of the eggs on Sunday when I made another of his favourites, pancakes. Of course I had to go to the grocery store and decided to just run over to Safeway rather than heading to Sherwood Park to Save On (where I prefer to shop!!). The weather here has not been good this week. It has definitely been feeling fallish (cold and sort of rainy) and after not really having a nice summer, I was mortified to look up in the Safeway parking lot to see a
GIANT SANTA CLAUS
balloon on top of the building!!!!!!!!!!

Can you imagine, it is only September 14th (only 9 days until Joanne's birthday). What happened to Thanksgiving or Halloween???? It just doesn't seem right to me at all. Aren't we rushing the season just a bit???? Then in the mail today was a Christmas catalogue from LL Bean. I think that the retailers are all NUTS. I am still hopeful for some nice weather. maybe a relatively warm evening that we could enjoy just one more fire in the firepit.

Story Of An Empty Nest Momma

I thought I would tell you a little story about what happens when you are the Momma of an "Empty Nest".

Usually it is quite quiet around the house. Even when Bruce is home, you find him in this position. Sometimes with one of the animals close by. Bruce is even Puppy's almost favorite person (I think that I still hold that position with Puppy though!!).

Most of the time during the day the critters are sleeping in various spots of the house. Puppy doesn't get up on the couch with me or any of the cats anymore. He tried to last week, but it is just too hard for an old pup!. So it's nice to have this picture to remember him doing that.
Most days Oscar will climb into his cozy little bed and curl up for an afternoon nap. Some days he finds some other spot in the house to have his naps. I don't even know where is "secret spots" are!!!!
The other cats, Clara and Soonie quite often spend their afternoons sleeping on the bed in the bedroom. Not always together though!!! Clara is outside as much as she possibly can.
So it goes.....all the critters sleeping in their favorite spots (this is one of Radar's favorite sleeping spots, the front entrance). Bruce is at work and I am puttering around the house getting ready to go bowling. All of the sudden there is a "HELLO" by a deep voice coming from the living room. Not being used to any other noises, except for the T.V., I almost had a heart attack!!!!!!! It was Bruce. He had come home, after dropping one of his co-workers off to pick up their car, to change his shirt and pick me up so I didn't have to drive to Gateway on my own. It was a nice change not to have to go there alone, but I sure had a FRIGHT!!!!!!!!!

Joanne's Wedding Cake!!!

Since Joanne made reference to her wedding cake on her blog the other day, I thought I would post a picture of it on mine. This is an original creation by me and the first wedding cake I ever did!! Turned out pretty good for a Rookie eh????

I also made her centerpieces, boutineers, corsages, music note chocolates (in both orange and dark chocolate) and all the wine glass candles. It was a lot of fun doing all that. We had a lot of compliments from the staff at the resort, where the wedding was held, on how beautiful her tables looked.

I hope that this shows up relatively well on this Blog!!!

Rember When????

Today I thought I would ask the question..... Do you remember when??

Do you think that Bassoon was ever this small????

Can you remember when she was this playful????

Just look at her now!!!! Pretty lazy looking isn't she?

What about this little thing????? Can you imagine anyone leaving on the side of the highway??

Wanna play peek-a-Boo with me now??????

Maybe I could help out with watering the plants!!!!!

So I guess you can tell that I don't have much to say tonight. I just thought I would make you put on the old thinking cap and try to remember when.
